I have a long-term piece of homework of you. Once you’re started on your journey as a freelancer or setting up your business, it’s important to pay more attention to the successes than the ‘failures’.

There’s nothing wrong with getting it wrong – we genuinely do learn from mistakes – and to reflect on how to do it differently next time. But we can’t get let ourselves spiral into low confidence because one person isn’t impressed by something we’ve done. So listen and absorb but then let it go.

But with the positive feedback – keep a note of it. I have a folder in my email inbox called ‘special’ folder. Here, I store any nice emails I receive. I also write myself emails, with a comment that someone might have made verbally about my work or manner (clients, friends, on social media, my mum). You can then refer back to this folder when you’re doubting yourself.
