Who am I?

I’m Annie Ridout. A trained, qualified and experienced life and career coach. I’m also a mother to three young children.

I’ve worked with thousands of women over the past few years, through online courses, one-to-one and group coaching, and I’ve loved watching them transform from feeling unsure (but ready for change) to flying. Big things can happen when you feel seen, heard and encouraged. I can be that person for you.

Online business

My new business model – The Creative Way (to earn a living online) – is about using Instagram creatively so that you feel excited rather than jaded, growing a community on Substack, creating and selling online courses and signing up one-to-one coaching/consultancy clients. It’s about using your creative passion to generate sales.

Off the back of it, I’ve grown a following of 24,000+ on my personal Instagram and a mailing list of 6000+ on Substack, with 400+ people paying a monthly subscription for my weekly emails. I know how to create content that people actually want to see, and how to then create products and services that will appeal to that community.

I also grew an online course business, from scratch, and turned over six figures in years one and two (with very low overheads) before burning out. I had to reassess and make some big changes to the way I worked. That’s when I trained to become a coach, so that I could do closer work with fewer women. It feels fulfilling, this work.

Through my business courses, coaching and consultancy, I have:

      • Taught female founders how to create online courses that have earned them £100,000/year.
      • Created and edited press pitches that have got freelancers/business owners featured in the Guardian, Forbes, Stylist, the Daily Mail, Woman’s Hour, Red Magazine and top industry-specific publications.
      • Worked with writers to get them books deals with top five publishers.
      • Helped a hypnotherapy app to grow from 0 subscribers to 60,000.

As a coach, I can’t ever guarantee you specific results but I can guarantee that you’ll glow under the light I will shine on you. I’m endlessly curious about people, which is why I became a journalist, and then coach – and you will feel truly listened to, and understood.

Non-fiction books

My latest book is called Raise your SQ: How the power of spiritual intelligence can change your life in seven days (Radar, 2023) and it’s all about finding more meaning, focus, connection and magic in your life. It’s packed with coaching exercises, as well as rituals and practices you can try at home.

Before that, I wrote Shy (Fourth Estate, 2021), which reframed shyness as an attribute, rather than a flaw. I studied huge research papers and interviewed dozens of psychologists and psychotherapists, as well as successful shy people, to prove that shyness is not something you need to overcome.

My first book, The Freelance Mum (Fourth Estate, 2019), was a guide to freelancing while raising young children. I have three of my own children – now aged nine, seven and gout – and fully understand the challenges that may arise when you’re working and have parenting responsibilities, too.

Journalism and poetry

I’m also a freelance journalist for the Independent, Guardian, Telegraph, Grazia, Stylist, Red, Forbes and more. And I’m a poet, as well. Two of my poems have gone viral – ‘I’ve just had a baby’ and ‘what I want’, after being shared by thousands of women around the world, including Paloma Faith and Busy Philipps. So I turned them into prints and books, which sold globally – across Europe, the US, Australia, Canada.

“I feel so inspired and encouraged after my business coaching calls with Annie. She is an amazingly present and patient listener and helps me to see my skills and experiences from a different and more positive perspective.

As well as consistently asking considered and thought-provoking questions, Annie has suggested some great ideas that build on the foundations of what I want my business to look like. It’s so helpful that she can relate to life as a mother of young kids too.

I look forward to our calls every week. I feel completely secure, supported and uplifted during and after our conversations.”

“I wanted a coach to help me navigate the daily demands of being a mother and trying to set up my own online business. I knew straight away that Annie was the person I wanted to work with as I knew she understood the challenge of balancing both.

Having Annie as my coach has brought me multiple benefits. She is there to not only talk about my business challenges but also understand the constant conflict of balance as a new mother.

No topic is off discussion with Annie and I always come away from our calls feeling lighter and focused with a clear path forward. I love having Annie to keep me accountable. She understands and believes in my business which gives me so much confidence. I can’t recommend Annie enough!”
