This morning I cooked egg noodles for my children’s packed lunches. I peeled carrots and chopped them into matchsticks – cucumber, too – then after tonging the steaming noodle nests into little square boxes, I tucked the raw vegetables in too. I pushed the lids on tight, hoping the noodles might stay at least a bit warm until lunchtime. Next, I sliced apples, and wrapped a handful of baby biscuits for each of the kids. After slotting oat bars into the water bottle section of their lunch bags, I filled their bottles and squished them in too. I drank my coffee and thought my thoughts and went running on the frosted-grass fields before showering and doing the walk to school.
