You’ve had this idea floating around for ages and know it would make a really good book. Perhaps you’ve written some or all of it already. And you want to move now or someone else will write it before you. But how do you go from idea to book deal?
And once the deal’s in the bag: what then?
I’ll teach you, through this simple, practical online course.
Here’s the course outline…
Module 1: The book
This book idea you’ve had: is it the right one? Could it be more refined? Is there a market for it? It’s easy to get caught up with thoughts of getting an agent, a publisher, having a book PUBLISHED AND OUT IN THE WORLD. But before getting too excited, we need to check this book idea will float. By the end of this module, you’ll know.
Module 2: Growing a profile
If you have a profile and so people know you and what you’re all about, this is never going to hurt in terms of securing a book deal. More followers will often mean more book sales, once it’s published. So publishers will love to see big social media followings and impressive stats on your website. If you don’t yet have a profile in your field, that’s fine. This module will teach you all the basics.
Module 3: The proposal
Now you’re clear on the book idea, but how do you get it from idea to book deal? Firstly, you need to write a proposal. A really good one. I’ll share one of mine and you can use this as a template. Then it’s about deciding whether to go for an agent or direct to publisher (this is less conventional), and how to go about either option.
Module 4: Writing the book
You have a book deal. Hurrah! Now, how to write the bloody thing? This module will offer ideas for managing your time, productivity, working through writers’ block and getting the first draft down. Then how to edit. This is about ensuring your book is in the best shape possible for sending it off to your editor for the first round of feedback.
Module 5: Marketing and sales
Your publishers will hopefully have a marketing strategy for selling copies of your published book. But you might be expected to do some of the promotional stuff yourself – and even if you’re not, it’s a good idea to get stuck in, as people want to hear about your book from you. Here’s how to do social media and PR for you book.
