If you feel awkward about talking to camera (or phone), it can be easy to say: well, I don’t really need video content anyway. I’ll stick to photos and words. But actually, if you have a service, product or idea to sell or share, people want to see your face and learn about it through video.

If you think about some of the world’s most successful companies: Facebook, Huffington Post, Apple – I bet you can name and picture the founder? That’s because they are all the face of their brand (or at least were when starting out). Putting yourself in front of your business will endear your customers to you.
So now you know that videos are good for engagement. And that becoming the face of your brand is important. But what you may not know is this: most of us feel awkward and embarrassed when we first start filming ourselves or being filmed by someone else.
I certainly did.
But I learned how to speak into my camera phone because I knew that Instagram Stories were good for engagement and click-throughs and I wanted to sell my book. Soon, I was really enjoying sharing these daily updates with my followers. And it also helped for when I launched my courses and needed to speak to camera – for the course content, as well as for promoting them.
So I’ve put together a course teaching you how to talk confidently to camera.
I’ll run through the most important considerations when filming yourself – in terms of how it looks, how you sound and what you should be saying – using video, text and photographs. There are also tips on scripting your content (or not).
And there are some video tips from the brilliant Victoria Hargreaves – @thecraftyfox.ukon Instagram – who is the Queen of Instagram Stories. She has over 90,000 followers and believe or not, she felt just as awkward about talking to camera, when she started out, as you perhaps do now. Now her Stories get 15-20,000 views a day.
Victoria tells us how, when and where she records her Insta Stories, and her tips are both confidence-boosting and reassuring. Plus funny. Because that’s how she tells it. Hearing how someone with such a huge (and engaged) following creates the right environment for filming herself is really rather useful. And her tips are exclusively for this course.
Then you’ll be set a daily challenge which will involve filming yourself talking to camera. A tiny challenge. It will take a few minutes out of your day. And you’ll then be sharing these mini films online. It’s the ‘shut up and shoot’ approach: stop talking about it and just do it.
